March’s Yoga Practice 🌱 Practicing Santosha + 3 Simple Ways to Support Your Practice

Hi Reader,

Happy March 🤍

Life has been feeling pretty good lately over here.

It’s starting to feel like that in-between season here in Colorado; the light is changing, the time has officially changed today, the days are warmer… but winter hasn’t totally packed its bags yet. We’ve had a stretch of dry, warm weather (not great for what that could mean later this year), but this week we finally woke up to snow in a lot of areas. Honestly… woohoo. We'll take it.

A small life update from me: Finn had to get a little biopsy for a funky-looking mole on his side. Naturally, I spiraled a bit, but here's the kicker — the vet said it was an inverted “tit.” Apparently, the first one she’s ever seen. So Finn is both healthy and slightly unique.

💡 March’s Yoga Reflection: Practicing Patience

This time of year always reminds me of Santosha, the yogic principle of contentment.

March can feel like a bit of a waiting room...
Not quite winter.
Not quite spring.
Just the slow shift between the two.

Nature isn’t rushing anything right now. The ground is still cold, things are still resting, but there are small signs that change is coming.

Our yoga practice can be a lot like that.

Some weeks we may feel strong and energized. Other weeks the practice feels slower, quieter, or even a little stuck. But that doesn’t mean nothing is happening.

Santosha reminds us that growth doesn’t always look exciting. Sometimes the work is simply showing up, accepting where you are, and letting the process unfold.

And honestly… that might be the hardest part of the practice.

🌀 Yoga Tools for the March: 3 Ways to Support Your Energy During Seasonal Shifts

Santosha doesn’t mean forcing positivity or pretending everything is perfect. It’s more about learning to work with the moment you’re in instead of constantly wishing it were different.

Here are a few small ways to practice that on and off the mat:

  1. Stay for One More Breath: When a pose feels challenging or uncomfortable, instead of rushing out of it, try staying for just one more steady breath. Notice what shifts when you give the moment a little more space.
  2. Let Your Practice Be “Enough”: Not every practice needs to be long or intense. Some days a 10-minute stretch or a few mindful movements is exactly what your body needs. Let that count.
  3. Notice One Thing That Feels Good: During your practice, pause for a moment and notice one sensation that feels supportive — warmth in the muscles, a deeper breath, the feeling of the mat under your feet. Contentment often starts with attention.

Small adjustments like these can make your practice feel more supportive instead of something you have to push through. We’ll be weaving some of these ideas into classes this month too.

A Meditation to Practice Santosha

If you want a simple way to explore this idea of contentment, I have a short meditation called Let Go of Chaos – Simply Stopping.

Sometimes Santosha isn’t about doing more yoga, fixing your mindset, or chasing a better feeling. Sometimes it’s just about pausing long enough to step out of the noise and notice what’s already here.

This meditation is a gentle invitation to do exactly that: to stop, breathe, and let things settle for a few minutes.

Even a few minutes of stillness can shift how the rest of your day feels.
